The first time I came across setting sprays I was moving my very first steps into the makeup world. I thought they were some new device designed to make you spend more money and didn’t really make a difference. I’m a real pessimist, okay?

After a few months I started thinking about trying one, but I was still hesitant: what if it didn’t work? I knew I wouldn’t be spending a lot, but still.  Eventually, I decided to go the cheapest way possible: crafting one myself.

THE PROCESS

I didn’t exactly know where to begin, so I just googled some DIYs on Pinterest; pretty soon I realized that it was down to either rose water or aloe vera.  Unfortunately, all the recipes I found either included witch hazel or glycerin: since I didn’t have them, I decided to procede with lots of hope and creativity.

One of my mom’s friends gave her a bottle of aloe vera juice some days before, so all I had to do was grab a spray bottle and get started!

The only one available was an old, empty spray conditioner that can contain up to 200 ml (6.7-7 oz), which is a pretty fair amount for a setting spray!

THE ACTUAL DIRECTIONS

The article’s directions instructed to use 2 cups of purified water and 1 cup of aloe vera: these measurements didn’t fit my bottle, so I improvised. I went with half a cup of water and half a cup of aloe vera, so that it would be perfect.

Once I added all the liquids I shook the bottle to mix them well together.

DOES IT WORK?

Now, on to the million dollar question: does it work?

To my great initial astonishment, I have to say that it really works – and it really is  worth a try!

This setting spray really helps when it comes to make your look last longer, look smoother and better blended.

Why is that? Aloe vera has a lot of amazing benefits, some being soothing and hydrating. That helps smoothing your makeup even better and makes it cling to your skin a lot longer.

I’m not going to lie, the results left me astonished. I thought the recipe was just a simple, unimpressive alternative to an actual product, but its wearability and effectiveness definitively proved me wrong.

Do you like setting spray? What’s your favorite? Let me know!
