In this day and age, not everybody has got time for a complete, spa quality, long lasting manicure.
With how frantic life has become, it may be difficult to find the time to practice some self care. However, what if I were to tell you that having a proper, efficient manicure at home might be a lot easier than what you may think? Not to mention quite cheaper, too!
Despite being a nail polish fan since I was about 11 years old, I have only recently started *actually* taking care of my nails. And boy, has it been an interesting ride to hop on!
I have learned a lot in the past few months, and it has been a fascinating practice. The most surprising element about it being how small and cheap activities can actually be the most impactful ones. And those are the exact ones we’re going to examine in this post.
You don’t really need to spend a fortune on your self-care, especially manicure-wise. And these 4 unconventional tips are just the proof of that!
Are you ready to find out all the secrets to a picture perfect, long lasting manicure?
Let’s get started!

You may be familiar with this practice already, but I sure wasn’t! I was a big fan of soaking my hands in a mix of water, soap and baking soda up until a little while ago. Some of you may already be turning up their noses, but it’s the truth!
Thankfully, I have learned that there is a much more efficient and less wasteful way to soften my cuticles; and that’s soaking my hands in nothing but warm water. This is more than enough to prepare my cuticles, and won’t add any excess oils on my skin or nails.
It won’t have you waste any additional proucts, either!
I used to overlook this step a lot before, but not anymore; if you want to achieve a perfect, long lasting manicure, you definitely don’t want to skip it!
Removing the oils from your nails will make the polish adhere better to the surface, not compromising its formula and, thus, making it last longer. You can easily do this using your remover; just make sure to leave it to dry for a couple of minutes before applying nail polish!

As silly and basic as it may sound, using thin layers is one of the best practices to apply when it comes to nail polish.
They will dry down much faster, which is always nice, and will dry down evenly as well. This is especially great when it comes to preventing excessive texture on the nail, which will only result in bumps; thicker layers not only get ruined in a matter of seconds, but take a lifetime to dry down completely, also.
Lastly, thin layers are much more efficient when it comes to building up your desired color intensity. Moral of the story: use thin layers, and you’ll thank yourself!
Lastly, I leave you with my favorite unconventional tip to use when it comes to having a long lasting manicure.
Re-applying your top coat every other day may sound weird, but it’s actually pretty clever! It will strengthen your nails furtherly, even without doing a complete, thorough manicure; moreover, it will have your nails looking nice and perfect everyday!
It’s the real secret to a perfectly long lasting manicure, and you’ll quickly become addicted to doing it!
