Ever since I crafted up my DIY Aloe Vera oil, I couldn’t stop thinking about all the different products I could make with it. From skincare to haircare, the possibilities really seemed endless!
One day I was brainstorming a few ideas for new posts, and it suddenly dawned on me that aloe vera is one amazing makeup primer. The gel consistency may not be the best for everybody, but it works great when it comes to holding the base on your face.
The idea didn’t sound too bad, but I wanted something more out of it. A simple primer is ok I guess, but why not spice things up a bit? Why not make it an illuminating primer?
This definitely sounded a lot better, and after a little bit of crafting I came up with a product that definitely satisfied me. Are you ready to find out how to make one yourself?
Let’s get started!
Before proceeding, I just wanted to clear a few things up.
I decided to use an empty serum bottle because the application resulted much easier for me; however, if you feel like applying your primer some other way, go for it! You could also store it in a moisturizer jar and apply it with a brush, if you wanted to.
Now, the Vitamin E oil tab; I know I frequently say it’s an optional step, but I would strongly suggest you add one or two to the mixture, and here’s why. This ingredient will elongate and preserve the shelf life of your product, allowing you to store it outside of your fridge; also, it will help keeping your complexion nice and healthy!
Lastly, if you want to make your own aloe vera oil, you can find the complete and detailed recipe here.
The first thing I did was breaking up my shimmer (I used a light gold shimmer from the ‘Velvet Rose’ palette by Revolution) and reduce it to a fine powder. This step is a little bit annoying and messy; put a sheet of paper on your work space and proceed with caution to avoid hurting yourself!
Once your powder is ready, set it aside for a little bit and proceed to adding the Vitamin E oil to your aloe vera oil. This procedure also requires a bit of attention, so be careful while breaking the tab!
Stir the liquids together for about a minute, then add the shimmer and mix everything for a little bit. You want the texture of the primer to be somewhat cohesive; when you feel like it’s ready, give the product a couple more stirs.
All you have to do now is pour the mixture into the container. And your DIY illuminating primer is all ready to go!
