The weather has already started warming up quite a good amount where I live, and I am already starting to shed my full-face of makeup routine.
Summer is fastly approaching, and I can no longer afford my foundation, concealer and whole sh-bang. I am surely going to take a more conservative approach to cosmetics, and that’s where this DIY Blushing Oil comes in.
This little item is perfect to give some color to your face without making it too greasy, and will give you a small boost of hydration. However, you can consult this practical guide if you feel stuck or simply don’t know what a carrier oil is!
So, are you finally ready to find out how you can make your own DIY Blushing Oil?
Let’s get started!
YOU’LL NEED
- 3 Tablespoons of Jojoba or Coconut Oil
- 1 teaspoon of a blush or eyeshadow, crushed into fine dust
- A serum bottle or another container of choice
- A bowl, a spoon, a knife
CLARIFICATIONS
Before jumping straight into the crafting process, allow me to provide just a few clarifications.
I decided to use smaller quantities so you could see how you liked the formula before committing to a bigger sized product. Feel free to customize the quantities
Much like the oil, you have full creative liberty when it comes to which blush or eyeshadow you use. You can even experiment around with interesting shades you have seen around, but don’t want to buy full prize. Like a purple or even lilac color!
Another element I wanted to briefly touch on is the container you want to use. My personal recommendation lies on an empty and sanitized serum bottle. The dropper wand will make application quite easier, and it’s also a nice way to recycle the container! However, if you don’t end up using a serum bottle, make sure you pick something you can close (preferably tightly!).
Alright, let’s get crafting!
Firstly, you want to focus on turning your blush or eyeshadow into the finest dust possible. Make sure to put an old newspaper on your table to avoid making a mess, and gently use a knife to break the powder.
You want to take some time with this step; having a finer powder to work with will make the formula much smoother and pigmented, avoiding chunks of product here and there. You could use a sifter as well, if you wanted to reach that perfect finish.
Once you are satisfied with the consistency of the powders, pour them into the container you chose; then, splash the oil on top of it. Close the lid tightly and give the mixture a thorough shake.
And your DIY Blushing Oil is all ready to go!
When it comes to usage, I have a few tips for you.
This formulation was created to suit hotter weather better, specifically Summer. Ideally, the only thing you want underneath it is your SPF and moisturizer. The oil would easily break both foundation and concealer, and you’d have to wait a little while before using any powders on top of it.
Another important tip I have for you is to proceed very slowly. I don’t always agree with the whole ‘less is more‘ concept, but it is definitely a crucial belief here; start off with very little product, and build your way up bit by bit. There’s always time to add more, but taking it off is almost impossible. It’s the same as seasoning, you know?
