Hey, pretty people!
I have been focusing a lot on Lush products lately, and have been trying to replicate those formulas with products I have laying around my kitchen. It has been quite challenging so far, but I must admit I am fairly pleased with the results!
Angels On Bare Skin is one of the most iconic products by Lush, and has a whole lot of benefits for your skin. It is a great option for people with acne-prone skin, as well as more sensitive complexions. This copycat recipe was slightly more challenging to re-create, but I was able to come up with a satisfying formula at the end.
So, are you ready to find out how to make your own DIY Lush Angels On Bare Skin Copycat Recipe?
Let’s get started!
YOU’LL NEED
- 1/2 cup of Kaolin Clay (you can substitute it with any powder clay you prefer)
- 3 Tablespoons of Ground Almonds
- A little less than 1/4 cup of Rose Water
- 10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
- 10 drops of Chamomile Essential Oil
- 5 drops of Marigold (Calendula) Essential Oil
- A handful dried Lavender Flowers (feel free to omit them)
- A container of choice
Before jumping into the crafting process, let’s talk a little bit about these ingredients and their benefits for your skin; also, let’s clarify a couple of things about them.
KAOLIN CLAY
Kaolin Clay, the base of Angels On Bare Skin, is a great ingredient to control your skin’s natural oil production; it’s also a natural exfoliator, effectively eliminating dead skin cells and build-up. Moreover, it can help fight acne, irritations and redness. If you don’t have it on hand, you can substitute it with another powder clay solution (Bentonite is usually a popular choice).
GROUND ALMONDS
Ground Almonds obviously are the real exfoliating element of this product. However, they sound like quite the intimidating addition to it! To eliminate any possibility of damaging your skin, I would suggest to reduce the almonds to the finest powder possible. I used a food processor for better results, but feel free to use whichever method you find more effective!
ROSE WATER
Rose Water is one of my personal favorite ingredients when it comes to skincare; it has a ton of benefits for every skin type, and is a great, cheap tonic solution as well. This liquid can help fight acne and irritation, and is the perfect choice for people with more sensitive skin types to reduce redness. Moreover, it helps gently cleanse and shrink pores.
LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL
Lavender Essential Oil is probably one of the most popular essential oils out there, and offers quite possibly the most complete jack of benefits you could ask for. It is a super gentle moisturizer, and can help treat irritation, inflammation and redness. Also, it can help fight acne and keep breakouts at bay.
CHAMOMILE ESSENTIAL OIL
Chamomile Essential Oil is packed with anti-inflammatory properties that can help a great deal when it comes to redness and irritation. Its antibacterial properties can help fight acne, while it can also moisturize and enhance your natural complexion.
MARIGOLD ESSENTIAL OIL
Marigold (Calendula) Essential Oil is yet another amazing ingredient when it comes to fighting inflammation, redness and irritation in general. It can help gently hydrate the skin, and can act as an acne treatment – although it’s more of a gentler option.
DRIED LAVENDER FLOWERS
Lastly, I just wanted to spend a few words on Dried Lavender Flowers. To be quite honest, this ingredient is totally optional. It does help with the exfoliating part, and adds a whole lot of aesthetic value as well, I’ll give you that. However, feel free not to add them if you don’t have them around.
Alright, let’s get crafting!
Firstly, you want to make sure your almonds are so finely grounded that they won’t cause any problems when used on the skin. This step may take a little while, but it’s always better to be safer than sorry.
Once you are satisfied with the final consistency, it’s time to add the Kaolin Clay and dried lavender flowers and mix the two together. Now that you have your powders ready, it’s time to mix the liquids separately; since the consistencies are fairly similar, it will help with the blending of every ingredient.
You want to add the essential oils’ drops to the rose water, and stir the mixture for a couple of minutes; then, add it to the powders and mix everything together.
Lastly, pour the product into your desired container.
And your DIY Lush Angels On Bare Skin Copycat is all ready to go! I would recommend storing it in your fridge and keeping a close eye on it, to make sure it won’t go bad.
