Dupe Alert: Huda Beauty Rose Gold vs I Heart Chocolate Rose Gold

Dupe Alert: Huda Beauty Rose Gold vs I Heart Chocolate Rose Gold

Both 2016 and 2017 have definitely been the years of the Rose Gold trend, that’s for sure.

We’ve seen many reflective and shiny product packagings, but Huda Beauty stole the cake with her debut: the Textured Shadows Palette Rose Gold Edition.

The popular beauty guru’s company had us all weak in our knees for those 18 beautiful shades, but the price point is what kept many people from getting their hands on it. 65$ is no joke!

The product collected a lot of positive reviews and had a great success, but in October of 2017 it was officially discontinued in favor of the newest addition to the Huda Beauty family, the Desert Dusk palette. Needless to say, the product’s purchases skyrocketed all over the world and warehouses were soon unable to satisfy every order, leaving many people empty-handed.

But fear not, fellow beauty enthusiasts: I may have the perfect solution for you and your wallets!

British makeup brand Makeup Revolution (Revolution Beauty) is no stranger when it comes to high quality dupes for a drugstore price, and they are about to amaze you once again. Among their ‘I Heart Revolution – I ♡ Chocolate’ collection you will find the Rose Gold palette, which has some striking similarities with Huda’s Rose Gold one.

But is it actually a dupe for it? Let’s find out!

PACKAGING

Even if it is the inside that counts, packaging plays a big role in makeup.

Many people found Huda’s packaging to be quite cheap for a 65$ palette, especially when compared to similar value products such as Too Faced Chocolate Bars or the whole Naked series from Urban Decay.

Check it out here!

While we can all agree that cardboard absorbs impacts way better than metal and plastic, this particular one feels rather cheap and accident-prone, just like the thin clear plastic cover.

The palette comes with a thin cardboard that displays the name of the product complete with a beautiful eye design. It also is “clutch-bag compatible”, so a good size for travelling.

The names of the shades are printed directly underneath the eyeshadows.

Chocolate Rose Gold’s packaging, on the other hand, is four times cheaper and a lot more luxurious. It is a bit smaller than Huda’s, but feels quite heavier when compared to its big sister.

The brown hard plastic is half covered by a melting, mirror-like rose gold chocolate bar effect that will sure catch some attention if displayed on vanities or in store.

Once opened up, the palette reveals its stunning eyeshadow selection, a double-sided sponge applicator that brings us back to the good old childhood makeup days, and a full-size mirror. There also is a clear plastic sheet with all the names of the shades, and you will find the ingredients on the back.

PRODUCT’S FORMULATION

Both companies are cruelty-free (Revolution Beauty is also vegan), and the palettes share the following ingredients:

  • Mica
  • Dimethicone
  • Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77499, Ci 77492)
  • Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891)
  • Ultramarines (77007)

You can check out the complete lists of ingredients at cultbeauty.co.uk, ulta.com and revolutionbeauty.com.

In case you were wondering, Huda Beauty products are not Ḥalāl.

FINAL THOUGHTS

So, Huda Beauty Rose Gold orphans, is Chocolate Rose Gold a dupe for our beloved 65$ palette? I do believe so!

If you hadn’t had the chance to get your hands on Huda’s, I definitely recommend checking this one out. Huda Beauty products’ quality is unforgettable, I’ll give you that, but 15$ for 16 shade is a pretty cool deal in my book!

The Chocolate Rose Gold is a good palette overall, but has a few weaknesses – the first two being the shades ‘Luxe’ (Rose Gold) and ‘Cheque’ (Trust Find).

These are pressed glitter shades, and may need a mixing medium or a tiny bit of glitter glue to work at their best. You can also use them with your fingers or a wet brush, but will need a little more love and building that way.

The remaining shimmer shades (‘Hold Up’, ‘Touch Me’, ‘Dirty Rich’, ‘Hard Work’, ‘Barbie’ and ‘Gold Digga’) will also perform better if used with a wet brush or, again, your fingers.

Lastly, the only two matte shades that are going to need a little bit of love in the building are ‘Uh-Oh’ (Shy) and ‘Not Yours’ (Flamingo).
