Are actual bullet lipsticks a thing anymore?
We have been so caught up with the newest liquid lipstick trend that we seem to have forgotten the actual origins of the lipsticks.
Sure, liquid lipsticks are a lot more efficient than bullet ones, and they can offer a better coverage for a longer lasting time. However, there are many valid satin lipsticks out there for you to try!
Today, we are going to talk about quite a famous drugstore brand: e.l.f. cosmetics!
It is many people’s favorite when it comes to drugstore, and has recently made headlines with its little eyeshadow palettes.
However, in this post we are going to talk about another iconic product by the brand: the SRSLY Satin lipsticks.
These little lipsticks seem to be incredibly revolutionary in the bullet lipstick field, but are they actually that great?
Most importantly, are they worth trying?
Let’s find out!
You can find the full list of ingredients on elfcosmetics.com.
Similarly to what I said for e.l.f.’s Sheer Slick lipsticks (check the review here), this packaging is peak drugstore; that doesn’t automatically mean it’s something bad, though!
I find this type of packaging to be incredibly interesting and fun, although I do see how some people could possibly find it cheap. Packaging and aesthetics make up a great part of our decision of purchasing a product. This one may not look as appealing to some, and I do understand that.
In my personal opinion, this packaging is quite efficient in terms of seeing how much formulation you have left. Sometimes, we don’t actually realize that we could still have some more lipstick to use in the tube mainly because of the packaging that blocks our view; well, problem solved!
The name of the brand and of the product is printed in white on the bottom part of the tube; the color makes them easy to be read, but they do remain in this minimalistic theme. The fonts are rather simple, and the writings are well separated.
A detail I appreciated quite a bit about the SRSLY Satin Lipsticks packaging is how well the cap closes. It makes me feel secure about carrying it around with me in my bag, and that is not a detail to be taken for granted!
A couple of things I didn’t fully enjoy about this packaging are the shade names printed on the bottom and the lack of more infos about the product.
The ‘issue’ I faced with the shade names was that they were printed in black, which made them slightly hard to read. Moreover, they are printed in a very small font.
The ‘bigger problem’ I had with this packaging is the fact that a lot of basic infos (like ingredients and shelf life, for example) are completely missing.
Now, this isn’t a grand issue per se, it’s just that I would prefer to have all of these infos printed on the packaging; sure, a quick Google search will fix that for me, but maybe people with allergies would love to know those infos beforehand.
Aside from these minor inconveniences, I actually enjoy this packaging!
I find it to be somewhat different in the drugstore scene, and in the lipstick scene in general; sure, it doesn’t look expensive, but it has a functional packaging you will be able to enjoy.
Before giving more in-depth explanations about this formulation, let’s examine the claims the SRSLY Satin hold and see how truthful they are.
Well, that is its name, but is it really a silky smooth satin lipstick? Yes! This formula is incredibly comfortable to apply and wear, and really does provide a satin finish on the lips.
A satin formula is inherently more hydrating and comfortable than a matte one; that alone means it will be comfortable to wear. Of course, this is a true claim. This lipstick will sit on your lips and almost melt with them, creating an incredibly comfortable and pleasant wearing experience.
It brings me great pleasure to say that this is definitely a true claim! Finding such a pigmented formulation at the drugstore (or at a high-end store, to be quite honest) isn’t really all that common, which is why I enjoy these lipsticks so much. The one-swipe claim is also very true, which surprised me even more!
Now that we have briefly discussed the claims the SRSLY Satin lipsticks hold, let’s actually go more in-depth about their performance.
We have already said that this is obviously a satin formulation, but what does that mean when it comes to lasting power and wearing experience?
Surprisingly, this formulation does put up a fight to stay on. It does last quite a bit, but we must remember we are dealing with a bullet lipstick. You won’t get the same strength as a liquid lipstick, and it won’t cling as much. On the other hand, we do have a pretty long-lasting item in our hands; once applied, both colors lasted through a whole meal without really budging that much.
It really is a comfortable lipstick to wear, and the hydrating element furtherly makes the experience pleasant; the formula sits comfortably on the lips without drying them down, and doesn’t really accentuate any potential lines.
The aspect I enjoyed the most about these lipsticks is the intense color payoff. It truly is insane!
I am ashamed to admit it, but I didn’t really believe the ‘intense color payoff‘ claim when I firstly purchased these products. The reviews did seem great, but my skeptical side got the best of me. Thankfully, these lipsticks were able to prove me wrong!
One-swipe does give you a full coverage, but a couple of swipes definitely will look better; allow me to furtherly elaborate on this concept. Building up the formula doesn’t only provide a better color payoff, but offers an added richness in the finish as well. This will also help you have the formula look better on the lips and last longer in general.
Alright, here we are at last!
In conclusion, would I recommend the SRSLY Satin Lipsticks by e.l.f. cosmetics? Without question!
These lipsticks truly have been a pleasant surprise for me, and I am incredibly surprised they aren’t talked about more. They really deserve more hype, in my opinion.
I love everything about this formulation, especially considering it is a bullet lipstick; it is incredibly hard to find this much quality in a drugstore product, let alone a proper bullet lipstick.
The best thing about this product is how incredibly cheap it is; you seriously will have to look high and low to find a better deal!
If I had to pick something I don’t really like about these, it would be the shade range.
I would love to see a whole lot of more shades, even though this range is quite good to begin with. I do believe that more hues would bring more people to try them, and if there were more shades I would certainly think about purchasing more!
Besides this side ‘issue’, I love these lipsticks, and I definitely see myself re-purchasing in the future. Also, I would love to give a couple of the other shades a shot!
Thank you so much for reading this review, and spending time with me! I hope you have a wonderful day ♥
