15 Light Academia Outfit Inspo
We are already at chapter 3 of The Fashion Journal, and it almost seems natural to continue where we left off on the previous chapter; if we talked about Dark Academia last time, we are going to elaborate on Light Academia.
While the former is the trend that took over 2020’s fashion, the latter is similar to it, but with more twists. It is still a pretty elegant style, but slightly more relaxed.
Since we are going to examine a proper trend, we aren’t going to talk about Cuts; you can get your items pretty much everywhere, and it would be impossible to analyze them all.
As much as Dark and Light Academia are two sides of the same coin, it is fair to say that both have their own carateristics and differences. That’s exactly why we are going to analyze them separately. You can click here if you would like to see How To Copy Dark Academia Aesthetics & Outfits.
Fun fact: this article was kindly featured in this fashion article about Dark Academia by thelist.com; I couldn’t be more grateful!
So, are you finally ready to find out how to copy Light Academia Aesthetics & Outfits?
Let’s get started!
THE ITEMS
Like I said just before, Light Academia cannot be confused with the style of Dark Academia; their difference are quite prominent not only in the colors used, but in the style of clothing as well.
If Dark Academia suits fall and winter best, Light Academia can pair perfectly with the feel of spring. Not only because of its softer colors, but for the lighter items as well.
While there are still sweaters and coats involved, you will find a few light cardigans and shirts in many outfits. Moreover, the dresses and trousers are slightly more baggy and flowy.
THE OUTFITS
Just like we saw with Dark Academia, the general theme of this style is elegance; however, this time we have a slight twist.
The elegance portrayed by Light Academia seems to be almost accidental, like whoever is wearing that particular outfit didn’t really pay much attention to the items. While that can be said for its ‘sister style’ as well, this time it is even more prominent.
This style is less uptight, slightly more relaxed and baggy, even; while before the most liked pairing seemed to feature a fitted item with a looser one, this time around it is more and more popular to use comfortable clothes. Of course, there are still many fitted clothes to use here, but there generally seems to be a cosier vibe to it all.
Among the most well-liked pairings we have cardigans and shirts.
Not only they go well together, but they are also quite good for warmer seasons; they offer a more minimal vibe, but are just perfect to create an on-the-go outfit that can be used in pretty much any occasion.
Another popular pairing is, of course, a sweater with a pair of baggy trousers. To have it go all year around, pick either a lighter or thicker sweater. They go fairly well with skirts, too.
I feel like the great thing here is that the combinations are basically endless. You can mix and match the items all you want, and you will keep getting new combos to work with.
THE COLORS
Much like Dark Academia, the name Light Academia gives it out immediately; the aesthetic of this style is a lighter, softer one, and that is mainly conveyed by the colors chosen.
By far, the most used shade is beige. It’s the true backbone of Light Academia, and you want to invest in it to bring the spirit of the style out. Besides that, other fairly popular choices are grey and, of course, white.
Interestingly enough, another well-liked option here is dark brown. I feel like this is where we can really see the contrast between Dark and Light Academia. In fact, while the former’s brown was a richer hue, this time around we have a much softer one. Like we said before, two sides of the same coin!
Another compelling element when it comes to colors is that they can get warmer, although more mute. Dull, even. In fact, while you do have more room to play around with colors, you have to make sure they aren’t too bright or rich. That’s what perfectly distinguishes Light Academia from Dark Academia.
When it comes to prints, we have to refer back to what we said in the previous chapter; there really isn’t room for too many of them here, that’s for sure.
Light Academia doesn’t exactly favor prints in the outfits, but that doesn’t mean you must not include them. However, I would recommend picking small and minimal ones, to make sure the attention isn’t taking away from the general elegant feeling of the outfit.
Patterns, however, are a completely other story; in fact, you will find plaid almost everywhere!
It is one of the most favored designs, and in these lighter hues it can fit perfectly in any season. However, that isn’t the only pattern you’ll find!
The most popular ones are also kind of classics, like diamond cuts and checkered ones. They offer the most elegant and polished finish, which is why you may want to keep them in mind.
10 KEY ITEMS AND SOME TIPS
Lastly, before we get down and talk about 10 items you may want to consider buying, let’s talk about the general specifics of the Light Academia aesthetics.
The colors you want to gravitate towards are beige, white, grey and light brown. However, don’t feel like they are the only ones you need to pick! As long as you go for muted colors, you’re all set to create the base of your Light Academia outfit.
The items you want to invest in are generally looser in size, and they are designed to pair well together. Like long-sleeved shirts, cardigans, light sweaters and trousers and skirts. There really isn’t a right or wrong way to go about this, as long as the general feel of the outfit is a relaxed yet elegant one.
