False lashes can be an intimidating item to use, especially if you’re just starting out with makeup. However, I am sure nobody can deny their unquestionable appeal!
They can totally transform your makeup look, and your general appearance as well. Plus, you can find incredibly high quality falsies at more than reasonable prices nowadays. Not to mention all the different methods of application they have invented; from water, to magnets, to your regular lash glue!
Today, however, we are not going to talk about regular lashes. In fact, as you have guessed by now, we’re going to make our very own DIY Colored False Lashes!
Before you get discouraged, let me tell you; this process is a lot easier and quicker than what you may think. Also, you probably have all of the items needed to complete this project.
These DIY Colored False Lashes are one of the simplest homemade project I have ever shared on my blog, and they’re completely washable! They’re perfect for fun looks on a night out, but they can turn back to black by the following morning. They’re literally Hannah Montana.
So, are you ready to find out how to make your very own DIY Washable Colored Lashes in under 5 minutes?
Let’s get started!
YOU’LL NEED
- A pair of cheap false lashes
- Your concealer
- A matte eyeshadow of choice (or more!)
- Two eyeshadow brushes
Before jumping straight into the crafting process, I would like to share some details about the items you’ll need. These are just mere suggestions, you’re still free to proceed however you feel most comfortable with!
SMALL DISCLAIMER!
When it comes to concealer, I would recommend picking a rather light one.
In this scenario, the concealer will act as a base for the color – much like an actual eyeshadow primer. It will allow the color to show up more vividly, which is why a lighter shade would be ideal. However, if you only have a darker shade on hand, I would encourage you to experiment with it as well!
Since you’re going to be using a little bit of product here, I would recommend picking a rather cheap one.
Now, let’s quickly touch on the eyeshadow part.
I would recommend picking exclusively matte shadows because I believe they would show up better on the lash. Shimmers can be tricky to work with when it comes to these DIY Colored Lashes, for various reasons. Firstly, the shimmer might not show up properly once applied; secondly, it could cause a lot more fallout than needed.
Mattes are your safest bet!
Alright, let’s get crafting!
The first step is to resize your false lashes. You want them to fit your eye shape perfectly, so be sure to take your time with this process. You can’t really go back once you have cut them down!
Once your lashes are ready, it’s time to create the base for the shadow.
Take your concealer and place a thin layer on the lashes using an eyeshadow brush. You want to use very little concealer, but you want the lashes to be covered fully and thoroughly! I think that a sturdier yet small brush will do the trick just fine.
As soon as you are satisfied with your concealer base, it’s time to actually cover the lashes with color!
Pick up the shade you have selected and make sure to tap the excess off the brush very well. Then, lightly coat the lashes with the shadow. If you don’t want to hold the lash with you hand you can easily use a pair of tweezers and hold them by their band!
The concealer base will offer the perfect ‘primer’ for the shadow to grip on to, and the overall coating process shouldn’t take too long. Make sure to plan the look in advance if you want to use multiple colors, though.
And your DIY washable colored lashes are all ready to go!
Lastly, on to the big question: how can you wash them without damaging them?
You want to go for super gentle cleansing foams, gels or oils, for starters. Slowly and gently wash them by hand using lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, and repeat how many times you need to make sure they’re completely clean. Pat them dry with a towel and let them air dry for as long as they need!
