I am sure you have heard of the term limiting beliefs at least once in your life, especially if you are going through a spiritual journey of any sort. In case you were interested in learning more about subliminals, I will link a couple of useful resources at the very end of the post.

Limiting beliefs are one of the biggest reasons why we can’t achieve major successes; or at least we think we can’t. If you have ever heard of the phrase ‘you are your biggest competition’ – well, this is exactly what we’re saying here!

 

In this post, we are going to break down a few general limiting beliefs, and how you can try and obliterate them from your mind.

I am sure you will recognize that most of them were created by yourself, and you’ll soon understand how pointless and unmotivated they are!

 

So, are you ready to talk about some of your limiting beliefs and how you can banish them from your mind?

WHAT ARE LIMITING BELIEFS?

Before we dive in deeper, I would just like to clarify this term in case somebody hasn’t fully grasped it by now.

Limiting beliefs are notions and ideas that live in your head, and prevent you from achieving and becoming many things; a simple example is ‘you can’t do math’ or ‘I can only do this if I do that before’.

Even better examples are ‘affirmations with the words “no” and “never” will be inefective’; ‘affirmations don’t work, I need subliminals, I need to listen for at least X amount of time’.

I am more than certain that you have thought at least one of these before, and yes: every single one of those examples is a limiting belief. None of those statements are true to you.

 

I would like you to do a simple exercise; go about your daily life and routine, and try to identify all of these annoying and nagging thoughts. Don’t do anything in particular, just aknowledge them; by the end of the day, I am sure you will have found so many of them!

Don’t freak out though, there is no need: it is our intrinsic nature to find flaws and possible downsides in everything, and it is more than normal to have these notions pop up in our mind.

 

 

HOW CAN I GET RID OF LIMITING BELIEFS?

The answer is both a simple and yet complicated one; mental diets, affirmations, soothing yourself.

I know this seems like a lot of work to do, especially if you are full of limiting beliefs (like I am at times lol), but just give it a shot. You may discover it is a lot simpler than what you think!

 

 

WHAT ARE MENTAL DIETS?

I plan on doing a more extensive and in-depth post about them, but I would just like to give you a few basic notions now.

Similarly to a proper diet related to food and beverages, applying a mental diet means paying attention to all of your thoughts; which ones serve your purpose? Which ones aren’t true to who you are or make you feel bad?

A mental diet also means feeding your mind mostly positive content, and getting that positivity back. With a little bit of time, you will start seeing yourself thinking negative thoughts less and less.

 

 

WHAT ARE AFFIRMATIONS?

I believe that most of you only know this notion from subliminals; while that is, of course, a form of implementing affirmations in your daily life, it certainly isn’t the only one!

Affirmations are simple sentences in present tense you can speak into existence or simply repeat in your head from time to time. They can help you rewire your subconscious and also fight limiting beliefs.

For example, let’s say you have trouble concentrating; if you wanted to improve your concentration, a simple affirmation would be ‘I always have perfect concentration’ or ‘I can concentrate no matter what’. You can get as lengthy and creative as you’d like, I am just trying to give you simple examples!

You don’t need to repeat these affirmations all day long like a mantra; as long as you feel them to be true, repeat them as many times as you’d like.

 

 

HOW CAN I SOOTHE MYSELF?

Soothing yourself may seem like a ridiculous practice at first, but it’s a pretty effective one; it is also suggested in the mental health field, for patients who tend to talk very aggressively to themselves.

This practice simply consists in soothing your bad thoughts away, and treat yourself with a lot more gentleness than what you would normally do; use phrases that give you a feeling of relief and calmness, instead. Try to carry on like this for the entire day, if necessary.
