The holidays are the perfect time to play around with makeup.
Everything is pretty much allowed, from bold smokey eyes to everyday, barely there looks; and that’s exactly what Makeup Revolution did.
Last winter, the British brand released their “Life On The Dance Floor” collection, which featured 4 eyeshadow palettes and 12 lipsticks. Every palette had a glitter packaging and three matching cream lipsticks, which looked stunning both as a bundle and as individual items. The eyeshadows retail for 18$, which is a little bit more than the usual MUR prices, while the lip products cost 6$.
Today, we’ll be focusing on the “VIP” palette: is it actually worth the money? Is it the perfect day-to-night drugstore palette?
Let’s find out!

I don’t know about you, but glitter gives joy to my soul.
The sparkly theme was present in every “Life On The Dance Floor” product, but this particular one was inspired by the classical gold glitter.
Try looking at this beauty under direct light exposure, you’ll be amazed. The best news is that the glitter don’t fall off!
Even at first glance, we can see the palette is bigger than the other ones produced by Revolution Beauty, which is both a blessing and a curse at the same time. A bigger palette means a bigger mirror (which is absolutely amazing), but also more problems if you travel a lot.
The name of the brand is printed in black on the front, and the usual specifics are on a sticker on the back. I have to say, I love this black and gold pairing, it works really well.
Opening up this sparkly palette, we are greeted by a big mirror – also perfect if you want to do your full face with it, and not only your eye look – and a stunning selection of shades.
The left half is dedicated to paler neutral shades, while the right one is catered towards warmer tones.
The color scheme presented on the left side may not suit every skin tone, but I find the right side to be more wearable.
Once again, the clear plastic sheet plagues my life.
Like I said before, there is a major difference between the two sides of the palette.
Of course, the shimmer shades will work for all lids, but it may be more challenging to find the perfect crease color for deeper skin tones. “Big Shot” is a valuable candidate, but it may be necessary to mix it with a bit of “Notable” to get the perfect shade.
Nevertheless, this palette is the perfect balance of everyday shades and smokey tones for a light skinned person. Also, I believe it to be a stretchable palette for every season, from spring to winter.
Before taking a closer look at every individual shade, I wanted to put a little disclaimer out there. Every shimmer here is fairly pigmented, but works best using a wet brush or your finger. I did not want to repeat this with every color since it may get a bit redundant!
Champagne. A good matte base for light skin tones. Can also work as a matte inner corner and brow bone highlight.
Superstar. Matte light transition shade. Good pigment.
Worthy. Thor approved crease shade, a good mix between mauve and an orange-toned light brown.
Celebrity. Peachy shimmer shade. Pressed well and not crumbly.
Tycoon. Light purple shimmer perfect for fall. Good press.
Big Shot. A nice warm brown that could act as crease color for deeper skin tones. Good pigmentation.
Dollar. One of the palest shimmery pinks out there. Good pigmentation and formula, though.
Backstage. A little darker shimmery pink, but still leans on the light side. Great formulation.
Notable. Matte crease for light skin tones, or base for darker complexions.
Paparazzi. If “Celebrity” and “Tycoon” had a baby, basically. Nice pigment!
Reputation. A beautiful rusty orange-toned brown. Very good pigmentation.
Prestige. A nice matte deep warm brown with a vague hint of red to it. It reminds me of “Nana” from the “Magic Palette” by Juvia’s Place.
Renown. The perfect balance between a light beige (such as “Champagne”) and a light pink (like “Dollar”) encased in a pretty shimmer shade of good pigmentation.
Perfection. “Backstage” lighter version. Very reflective.
Rank. An ashy lilac shade, good matte transition.
Fame. Basically “Rank”, but in a shimmer version (which is never a bad idea).
On Tab. One of my favorite shimmers out of this palette. This light burgundy will be your best friend during the fall season.
Prominence. “Prestige”, but a little lighter. Great for deepening your outer corner.
Security. Your classical matte pale pink, but not my favorite shadow out of the palette. The pigmentation is lacking and does not really show up on my pale skin tone.
High Class. Wonderful pale gold shimmer. A good lid color but also a pretty cute highlighter!
On The Rocks. A gorgeous matte lilac that will break hearts this spring and summer – whenever it will stop raining.
Cocktail. It may be the name or the color itself, but all I can think when looking at this shade is “this is what whiskey would look like if it were a shimmer eyeshadow”. Beautiful reflectiveness.
Influence. I love this matte burgundy brown so much! Marvelous pigmentation and amazing pressing.
LBD. You don’t need a black shade if you have this deep, cool brown with you! This is the shade that worried me the most and, ironically, impressed me the most. The lack of a black kind of saddens me at times, because I feel like it is an essential shade for every palette, but this shade performs just as good as the deepest tone in the world.
After setting my eye primer with “Champagne“, I buffed “Security” into my crease and deepened it with “On The Rocks“. I then packed “Rank” onto my inner and outer corner and blended it out and into the crease.
Using my finger, I applied “High Class” on the center of the lid and “Renown” as my inner corner highlight. To pull the look together, I swiped a bit of “Rank” and “On The Rocks” against my lower lash line.
Once I put my base on, I started off the look by buffing “Big Shot” in the crease and blended it out with “Worthy“. After packing “Influence” on the outer and inner corner and blending it out and into the crease as well, I used a wet brush to place “On Tab” all over the center of the lid. Using the same brush, I applied “Reputation” on the center of “On Tab” and then “Cocktail” on the center of “Reputation“. I finished off the look by swiping “Influence” up against my lower lash line and used “Cocktail” as an inner corner highlight.
After buffing “Rank” and “On The Rocks” into my crease and blending them out, I applied “LBD” on my outer corner and blended it out into the crease as well. With a wet brush, I firstly packed “Celebrity” on the innermost part of the lid, followed by “Paparazzi” and “Tycoon“. Lastly, I deepened my lower lash line with “LBD” and used “Dollar” as my inner corner highlight.
Okay, we have covered a lot of aspects when it comes to this palette, but I feel like we could spend another couple minutes talking about a few things.
The Life On The Dance Floor palette is a light-skinned person neutral dream, but not all shades are able to fit deeper skin tones, unfortunately. I am pleased with the quality of this palette, but I recommend checking it in store (if it is possible for you) or taking a look the “Guest List” (rose gold) one – you can find it on revolutionbeauty.com.
That being said, I definitely recommend this palette. Indeed, if you want to spend a little, have a fairly vaste choice and like good quality shadows, go for it!
The blendability of the matte shades is ridiculous, and the softness of the shimmers will leave you shook (to say the least). The only suggestion I may have for you is to use your fingers when working with shimmers, or wet the brush if you’re going for a more precise look.
