If you have already taken a tour looking around my posts, you probably know I am a big fan of the British brand Makeup Revolution (Revolution).
They usually come out with pretty amazing product, both skincare and makeup-wise, and I often am satisfied with my purchases.
This time, I am going to review a skincare item: the Green Tea & Collagen serum.
This product was one of their most recent launches, and many people found themselves attracted to it because of its aesthetically pleasing packaging; not gonna lie, I was one of those people!
I decided to stop using my Collagen Serum by Holika Holika completely (check that review out here!), and tested this formula out for about 3 weeks, day and night.
How did that go?
Let’s find out!
You can find the full list of ingredients on revolutionbeauty.com.
I already talked a little bit about how this packaging is so pretty to me, so let’s dig a bit deeper and examine it.
The Green Tea & Collagen serum comes in a beautiful bright green frosted packaging, with white writings that pop perfectly on it. Also, the green color gives off cute gold reflexes.
The cardboard box isn’t particularly sturdy, considering the average-sized bottle it holds. It is quite cute and perfect for Instagram shots, though.
Now that we’ve got the general aesthetics out of the way, it’s time to focus on the bottle in itself.
To be fair, there really isn’t much space to get creative with serum bottles and applicators. Also, it’s better to turn to classics, at times.
The green and white pairing is still here, making the aesthetics even more cohesive; moreover, the gold reflexes are still very much present.
What I really like about this bottle is the applicator.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s still your average serum dropper applicator, but its pure white color gets to me, for some reason. I guess it’s a nice breath of fresh air away from the regular grey ones.
This bottle may not seem too mighty, but there’s actually a lot to say about the formulation it holds!
Firstly, let me just say that if you are not the biggest fan of fragrances in your skincare products, you may want to stay clear from this one.
This super sweet green tea smell fits the product quite well, of course, but it’s also a lot to handle for someone who’s not into it. It goes away after a little bit, though.
Like most serums, and definitely like the Collagen one by Holika Holika, this formulation is very liquid-y and almost completely water-like.
There really isn’t much more to say about this formulation’s consistency, besides the fact that it’s super lightweight. This makes the formulation perfect for layering, since it blends with the rest of your skincare products effortelessly.
When looking at the Green Tea & Collagen serum claims on the Revolution Beauty website, I was surprised to find just a few lines. Less is more sometimes, so I get why Revolution may have decided to keep it short and simple.
Either way, let’s breakdown this product’s performance and find something more about it.
Firstly, the green glitter particles are what grab all the attention. They certainly look pretty in the bottle, and the product could be among the most Instagrammable items ever.
The glitter does not hurt the skin, and you won’t be able to even feel it. They are visible on the skin, but they don’t create a super-weird and ‘extra’ effect on the face.
The formula is super lightweight, like I said before, which leads to a super fast and efficient absorbency. It’s great how quickly it melts into the skin, making it not only a good everyday choice, but an easy one when you’re on the go as well.
Since we’re talking about collagen, we are working with a product designed to bring some extra moisture and hydration to the skin. Also, it can help softening and making it plumper.
I have a combination to oily skin type, with a particularly oily nose; applying this serum morning and night won’t make the skin oily, which is a great feature. On the other hand, if you have a oiler skintype, you may want to only apply this formulation one time throughout the day.
If you like wearing makeup, and are addicted to full-faces (much like me), you may be interested in knowing how the Green Tea & Collagen serum performs under primer, foundation etc.
Fortunately, this formula won’t make your skin even oiler, and prevent other products from drying out the skin. Once again, you may want to consider a proper prepping and setting routine if your skin produces a lot of sebum throughout the day!
More practically, this formula is designed to enhance your natural complexion and make your skin glow. Your skin will literally glow, thanks to the green glitter particles!
That is to say, his super glow-y effect is the most evident result this product will offer you, and the quickest one as well.
One application is enough to make the complexion sparkle, and if that’s what you’re after you will most likely appreciate it!
When it comes to softening, this formula takes a little bit more time to show its true potential. This is more than normal, especially for a skincare product, so this isn’t a proper complaint – more of a simple disclosure.
This serum does make your skin softer, that’s for sure, but it’s a gradual change that will happen over time. In fact, I believe the first real results showed up after almost two weeks.
This is still a pretty impressive timing, considering we are working with a drugstore product; I guess I just had higher expectations for it, that’s all.
Here we are, at last!
All in all, would I recommend the Green Tea & Collagen Hydrating & Plumping Serum? I would!
Firstly, I found the formulation and performance to be 100% worth the price point, and the pleasing aesthetic was a nice addition to it as well; this formula is overall efficient, and I find the serum to be a good candidate for your everyday skincare routine – especially if you have a dry skintype.
This formula is so lightweight, it’s truly a pleasure to use it as part of your routine. In fact, it blends right in with the other products, and melts into the skin effortelessly.
It’s the perfect choice if you’re on the run, and the perfect base for your daily moisturizer; it will help keeping the skin hydrated all day long, even if you’re wearing a full face of makeup.
Another detail I appreciated was the fact that the green glitter particles are not too extra, and do not turn you into a bright glowy monster. They add a nice ‘something’ to the skin, but it seems to be slightly natural (as natural as glitters can be).
On the other hand, what did I not like about this product? Well, there were a few things. There is a lot to love about this product, but it does have a few weak spots.
To clarify: I said I recommend the Green Tea & Collagen Serum, and I definitely do. However, when comparing it with the Collagen one by Holika Holika, I must admit I prefer the Korean alternative.
The one by Revolution made my skin softer, but the other one did it quicker. Also, it offered 5 times the amount of formula for almost the same price. However, I did find a couple of weak spots in that version as well, and you can check them out in this review.
Once again, I would just like to re-inforce the point I made earlier; I do believe this product is worth the investment, I just think I would probably re-purchase the Holika Holika version – just because of the convenience.
