It’s been a hot minute now since my Superfruit Extract review, and I have found myself enjoying that product quite a bit. It’s my go-to primer at the moment, but I have also used it as a skincare supplement quite a few times.
Recently, I was browsing through Makeup Revolution’s website, and stumbled upon its spray version. I had seen it a few times before, but this time I decided to give it a go. Without second thoughts, I added it into the cart and once I was done shopping I ordered it.
I didn’t really know what to expect, to be honest. The only ‘serious’ spray I have ever tried is the ‘Facial Spray with Aloe, Lavender and Chamomile’ by Mario Badescu.
I ended up loving the product, but I couldn’t help but think it was because that was by Mario Badescu.
So, how have my superficial thoughts changed throughout my journey testing the Superfruit Essence spray?
Let’s find out!
You can find the full list of ingredients on revolutionbeauty.com.
The product comes in purple bottle, with a white spray and a golden insert on top. Much like most sprays out there, the applicator also has a protective clear plastic cap.
The fuchsia sticke isn’t as holographic and reflective as the one we found on the serum, but that’s not really a bothering aspect. Also, since it’s not a super bright one, it makes the black writings much easier to read.
Compared to the Superfruit Extract, I feel like this packaging is a lot more toned down when it comes to color and actual packaging.
The edges of the bottle are a lot more smooth, and there aren’t any harsh ones.
In contrast, the serum bottle came in a bright and kind of big cardboard packaging. Everything about it was eye-catching. Loud, bold, bright – while here it seems more like a ‘grown-up’ kind of vibe is slowly taking over.
In terms of size, it matches perfectly with the other setting sprays by Revolution; not too big nor too small, and overall quite easy and practical to carry around. Also, the protective cap makes it even more efficient for travelling.
I must say I took my time testing this product out, and I tried a million ways to implement it into my everyday life. Wether it was skincare or makeup, this spray gave me 100% effort.
The first thing I must say is that it smells really nice. If you’re not a big fan of fragrances in skincare/makeup you most likely won’t appreciate it, but I have to admit I am a fan!
It’s a quite different fragrance than the serum, less overpowering and more fruit-y like, but it did manage to preserve a kind of similar sweetness to it.
Putting this detail aside, how is this product going to help your skin? With a whole lot of hydration, that’s for sure!
A spritz of this formula is pure moisture laying down on your face, which makes this item amazing for dry skin types. In this sense, it reminds me a bit of the Mario Badescu spray I was talking about before. You could reach out for it throughout the day, and it will never fail to restore some much needed plumpness to the complexion.
Also, if you are wondering: it could substitute a proper moisturizer in an emegency. That’s how much of a bomb of hydration it is!
The easiest and most logical way is of course to try this formula out as a makeup setting spray, but that would be too obvious.
While using it, in fact, I noticed that the spray turned a little bit sticky when firstly layed down on the skin. The sensation disappears as soon as the product is completely dry, don’t worry, but that got me thinking. Could it serve as a makeup primer?
Turns out – it can! Of course, don’t expect the same stickiness you have with the serum; it would be foolish to think that.
However, the Superfruit Essence can serve as an ever-so-slightly sticky and dewy primer. It will make your base look a lot more natural and more glowy, but don’t expect much stickiness to it!
Lastly, how does this product act a setting spray? Very similarly to Mario Badescu’s ones, that much I can say. If a dewy, plump finish is what you’re looking for, you might have found your newest holy grail product.
Compared to the Facial Spray by Mario Badescu, this one is a little bit heavier when it comes to hydration and dewyness. Your highlighter will thank you immensely for pairing it up with it!
Also, what I really appreciated about this formula is how effortelessly and quickly it can fix powder accidents. If you happen to have gone overboard with your setting powder, this spray will immediately help you hide the problem and eliminate the cakey finish.
And here we are! All in all, would I recommend the Superfruit Essence Spray by Revolution Skincare? Without question!
I personally enjoyed this formulation very much, especially implementing it into my night skincare routine. I would also use it as a setting spray from time to time, but I still prefer Mario’s one over it – at least in that regard. Let’s talk skincare for a minute.
This hot weather has taken a toll on my skin, leaving it dry and dull. This spray is the perfect tool when it comes to adding moisture and life to the complexion, and you will see that right after the first use. I noticed that the final effects were very similar to my DIY Plumping and Moisturizing mask, and I was fairly surprised by it!
The plumping effect comes through basically immediately, and that comes especially in handy if you happen to have forgotten your moisturizer (happens to the best of us) or look for a more natural, much dewier finish in your makeup.
One of the best uses of this product is, in fact, implementing it in your makeup routine. Wether you would like a much more glowy base or to eliminate excess powder, this spray has your back.
Now, what didn’t I like about this formula? A total of two things, actually: the amount of hydration provided and the strong smell.
The truth is that the Superfruit Essence is highly moisturizing, which means it’s better to use it a bit more conservatively at first. You will easily grow familiar with the formula and will quickly find the perfect amount of spritz that perfectly suit you, but that’s something to keep in mind. A little bit goes a long way, so be careful while drenching your face with it!
Lastly, the sweet smell. I feel like you must consider that a spray will have a somewhat distinctive smell at some degree, especially when you’re purchasing something called ‘Superfruit Essence‘.
However, even if the sweetness levels are almost the same as the Extract’s, this product offers a more fruit-y fragrance to it. It still tends to lean on the stronger side though, so it could bother some people still.
All in all, despite these two aspects, I would still re-purchase it!
